Hello lovely people!

Today I am going to tell you, how my first week of school turned out.

On monday, September 12th, my alarm clock rang at 6:20.

I opened my eyes, took a deep breath to calm down and began to get dressed. I went into the kitchen made some breakfast(cereals), brushed my teeth(of course not in the kitchen;-)), picked my bag and left the house early to make sure that I won't miss the bus. At the bus station in Bedford, I waited for Roberta and we both took an other bus to Brickhill.

Fortunately the bus was full with students who were wearing the uniform of my school and we just followed them when they got out of the bus. (An other advantage of uniforms)

We made our way to the reception and introduced ourselves. The receptionist told us to sit down and to wait for Mrs. Boragman. We literally waited for hours until she came... She asked us to fill out a document and to choose three or four subjects. Actually I've already done this hole procedure at home but it seems that the information didn't reach them...

Anyway, "at the beginning" I've chosen English Literature, History, Drama and French. We got our timetables and joined the History lesson. It wasn't as difficult as I expected it to be and I understood most of the context. Our topic is: Germany after the World War 1. It's quite interesting and I enjoyed it.

In my second period I had French. I don't want to sound cocky but it was very easy. In the UK you may learn a language e.g for 5 years and in the end you're able to say "Bonjour". The teacher realized that my level was to high for this class and told me to change my subject. It didn't leave much - biology or maths. I really like biology but came to the decision that half a year without maths wouldn't be the best option. So I chose it.

At 13:35 we ate lunch.

The food, how can I describe it... - typical english. Chips (not to mix up with Crisps), sausages, cheese and a red, indefinable sauce...Roberta and I decided to take a sandwich but it wasn't the best choice. They were filled with a very fatty mayonnaise and egg sauce. We ate outside because it was warm and sunny.

14:15 was Registration time(more details later).

Then we had English Literature. This is probably the most challenging subject. We are reading Hamlet and every week we have to write an essay. The language is old and complicated. I mean the English students don't understand it-what shall I say? But it's good to improve my knowledge:-)

This was actually my hole first day..

I don't have the patience to describe eveeery siiingle day. I just want to share a few of my impressions.

1. The students notice that YOU are an exchange student. Even if I am just walking trough the school area - they look at me as if I am a total stranger(ok, a bit true;-)). But I have to say that they are very friendly and willing to talk with you. That leads us to the next point.

2. In general the people in England are very polite. You have to say "Thank you", when you leave the bus or for other little things. Here you also find real gentlemen, who open the door for you(as well in school) and let you step in first.

3. Ok, now to the school. Like I've already mentioned above-in the english school system you have this thing called "Registration". It's every morning and afternoon. The teacher checks if everybody is present. But that's not the point - you have to be the hole day at school until the registration!!! For example: I had just two lessons of Drama in the morning and had to stay at school until 15:25. They are some students, who have nothing on there timetables on a certain day and have to dawdle away their time and attend school. I can't and won't understand this system.

4. I am in the 6th Form. That means, that I can choose my 4 subjects. In this courses I have 2 teachers. It's a bit confusing because I study two different topics at the same time. I also have two timetables: One for week 1 and one for week 2.

5. A funny thing I realized is, that our school doesn't have an electric bell. Every lesson a teacher has to go to the schoolyard and ring the bell.

When the week was over, I was exhausted but satisfied. At the beginning it was difficult for me to adapt to the school system, the students and teachers. But it got better with every day who passed by. At the weekend two girls invited Roberta and me to go shopping with them. It was a good day and we had a lot of fun. I spent the saturday evening by a friend of my host sister and they had loooads of food.

Sunday was cleaning day. Nothing special happened.

I'll keep you up to date!;-)
